Tuesday Afternoon - by JR

One advantage to being the chaperon is that, occasionally, people have to do what I want. So- given the choice between going swimming at the beach or going to the ancient city of Acre, we went to Acre. After a marvelous lunch at a restaurant known by our gracious host Samuel, we split up to spend a couple of hours wandering around the city.

Laura Ellen and I wandered away to explore "The Citadel". This Ottoman fortress was built upon the ruins of a Crusader fortress, which had been built upon the ruins of a earlier structures. It is a constant reminder that this land has seen so much conflict over so many centuries. In some of the Crusader era rooms, that have been dug out in the last 40 years, we saw the ashes left from the great fire when Acre, the last stronghold of the Crusaders in the Holy Land, fell in the 13th century. We wandered through tunnels built by the Order of St. John, and the Templars. And- we wandered the gorgeous streets while meeting people along the way. - JR
